Synopsis for "Origin of the Black Hood"

Patrolman Kip Burland notices someone in a masquerade costume robbing a mansion. The robber knocks him out and places some of the robbed diamonds in his hand. The police find him passed out and with the jewels. Believing he is the looter, Kip is relived of his badge and will go on trial for grand larceny. While on bail, he prowls the streets looking for the man who framed him.

One night, he finds a fur warehouse making a late night delivery. Suspicious, he enters the warehouse to find the Skull – the same masquerading "corpse" who framed him. Again he is knocked out, but this time he is taken to the deep woods and left for dead. Soon after, a hermit stumbles upon him and nurses him back to health. As the days continue, Kip confesses to the hermit about the frame up. The hermit, being a sheriff at one time, has heard of the Skull and starts to train Kip by rebuilding his strength and teaching him ways to fight crime. Many months later the Black Hood is born.

Meanwhile, the Skull decides to crash the costume party of "society girl" Barbara Sutton. The Black Hood hears about this and follows suit. At the party, the Skull strikes by shooting his victims with poisoned darts and stealing their jewels. Quickly, the Black Hood deduces that Mrs. Sutton, Barbara's mother, is not the true hostess at all, but the Skull in disguise. With a brief struggle, the Skull is captured and Kip vows to fight for justice and continue as the costumed crime fighter.
