It is revealed by the castle's keeper, that Barbara's Great Uncle Cooper is in prison on the island. They all visit Cooper for some answers, and once again, the Panther Man pounces on them. The Black Hood chases him outside, were they fight high on a cliff. The Panther Man leaps off, but Black Hood does not follow. Instead, the three companions walk down the river and find a hidden cave.

At the end of the cave they find a giant stone statue with a bright ruby for an eye. The Black Hood dismantles it, and is suddenly entrapped in the statue's arms. At the same time, the dreaded Panther Man streaks in and attacks Joe Strong.

Barbara is able to release the Black Hood from the statue's grip, by replacing the ruby eye. Now free, he goes after their foe and hurdles him against the cave's wall. Some loose boulders topple down. The Black Hood is able to twist away, but the Panther Man is not as agile.
