The Eraser was a hired assassin. At one time, his services were needed by a kingpin to rub out the original Shield. He used his "Ion Weapon" to transform the hero into an iron statue. The Shield remained under suspended animation for over 30 years, and his son, Bill Higgins, found a spare uniform to continue his father's legacy. The original Shield would eventually be resurrected by the Comet and his Altroxian Generator.
The Eraser continued his criminal ways and even founded his own villainous team, Riot Squad. Together with Buzzard and Sting, he was able to kill the retired Black Hood.[1] This caused him to face the wrath of the Mighty Crusaders, and in turn he was killed by the the Comet.
